The Current in Beverly, MA was originally a school (built in the 19th century) with an addition built in the 1920s. In 1999 it was converted to Assisted Living and Memory Care and in the subsequent years had received very little by way of improvements. The original conversion made some really critical improvements – primarily by moving the main commons to the top floor where they enjoy views of Beverly harbor. But the entrance was dark, the salon was cramped, and with no updates in over 20 years, all of spaces were dark and fairly unpleasant.
The renovations were comprehensive, including most of the building systems and roofing, but the biggest fundamental improvement was an improved entrance and lobby, with an updated vestibule giving the building a proper scale and dignity in keeping with the rest of the project. The improvements to the finishes and lighting transform the spaces into brightly lit and inviting environments, with expanded capacity for fitness and wellness, a new theater, and a bar rounding out the improved amenities.
The Memory Care received similar improvements along with a new garden space.
All in all, it was a remarkable transformation, and EGA is proud to have been part of the team.
